Ernobius

Ernobius
Marlton, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
June 2, 2008
Size: Maybe around 4 mm?
I see these guys outside the house from time to time. I have images from two different specimens. I hope the antennae in the other help the ID of this one. If nothing else my title should get some web hits. :-)

Ernobius needs to be examined
Species characters are of difficult observation in general. The "red butt" is a common feature of most species.

Moved
Moved from Beetles.

I agree with Belov.
Those three extra-long antennomeres are distinctive.

an Ernobius i believe

Thanks
to both of you. I've been doing pretty well with the beetles lately! Nice stuff and good IDs!

several species
just checked Downie and Arnett and there appear to be at least two species with the "red butt" (both listed from NJ too). Need to look at those smaller antenna segments to ID further. Save one if you like and we can key it when we get together. I'll try to call you tomorrow to set up a time.

And nice beetle pics recently!
