springtail in scarlet cup mushroom - Ceratophysella

springtail in scarlet cup mushroom - Ceratophysella
Malanaphy Springs State Preserve, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
March 25, 2021
Size: <1 mm
I'm quite sure this is a springtail, but I have no clue what kind. They were very small and my macro lens had trouble focusing on them so maybe they can't be identified beyond Collembola. There was a large congregation inside a scarlet cup fungus.

Thanks so much for determining that this tiny springtail is in the genus Ceratophysella, Frans! I've never found a springtail out in the field before so I was very excited to find a whole congregation of them inside the fungus cup.
