Ants and an Anthill

Ants and an Anthill
Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, USA
March 26, 2021
Size: 5 mm
What a pleasant find! One of the kids about stumbled over this one. I was telling them, "Wait, wait, don't mess it up!"

Habitat: suburban lot.

If more detail would be useful, I can see if I have another photo that would help, or I can probably find this ant hill again and could just throw another post in if I can get a useful shot. I'm just curious to know something about this kind of ant. I don't see so many of them in our yard.
