I wonder if this might be a sun moth in the genus Neoheliodines?

Moved, Mompha terminella
Moved from Butterflies and Moths. This color pattern has arisen several times in micromoths.

Thanks so much for nailing down the identity of this little moth as being Mompha terminella, Aaron! Yes, I was amazed to see several similar moths with nearly identical color patterns to my untrained eye as I checked BugGuide for possible matches. It's nice to see Iowa is now added on BugGuide's Mompha terminella distribution map.

Wonder if it might be something near
Mompha terminella instead

Yes, you were right on with the call that this moth might be Mompha terminella! Thanks so much for your help!

Mompha terminella
Thanks for taking a look at this moth and comparing it with Mompha terminella. They do look like a possible match, for sure. I'm not expert enough to determine if my moth is M. terminella though, especially since that species has not been reported to BugGuide from Iowa before.
