Came to porch light. Don't know about this one; my closest guess in
Apamea mixta

melanic specimen?
After seeing a number of
Melanchra adjuncta
in the past several weeks, I wonder whether this is a dark form of that species (Hitched Arches). The markings look very similar - just darker. See comparison images of two individuals
here
