Possibly Golden Dung Fly - Scathophaga stercoraria - male

Possibly Golden Dung Fly - Scathophaga stercoraria - Male
Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
April 4, 2021
There were two or three mating pairs in and around some cow patties, as well as maybe 3 or 4 single flies. All action was at this one particular cow patty. The neighboring ones seemed to have hardened and had a dry surface.

Double Quotes in the Titles
The double quotes are blocking the title text from the thumbnail previews. If you put your computer's mouse pointer over the image above, then you will see this. I suggest that you use single quotes, if you need to.
The double quotes will block everything to the right of them from all views, including the genus, species and gender, in all parts of the guide, including the browser and info pages. Single quotes will not do this.
Please select "edit" and replace them. Let me know if you don't understand this, OK.

Sorry about that Bob, I will fix it!
I don't really need the quotes, anyways!

OK
Did you film three flies that day or are the three images of the same fly? If so, we can link them for you.

What I did was to link these three to a comment...
What I did was to link these three to a comment in a post that was I made the day before by adding a comment with a link to all three. Is there a better way to link them? What I did was like this: Here is the original post:

John Carr had placed them at Genus level in Scathophaga. Now, even though this may appear to be an ignoble species that breeds and lays eggs in dung, I have to admit it looks amazing, plus adults are fly predators, replete with enlarged forelegs, and heavily spiked legs. Basically, I took what I hoped was enough photos to put it at species level.
Now, I know John Carr to be extremely methodical and accurate with his ID's but my thought was why make it hard if the other views might show an anatomical feature that would make it more obvious for him.

So the 3 new photos were all taken at the same time and place as the original 2, however, sometimes people object and ask are they the same exact insect. Probably. There were not that many, present. I do believe the belong together. I probably made a mistake not adding them. The only way I can think of to do it is to delete them, then add them to the first observation. I can try tagging them and moving them to the original post and see what happens.

I could tag, but not move that way...
I could try adding it to the first one and use the URL?

Neither way worked. I bet there is a way to do it if I could find it...

Bob, I reallized only afterward that you may have ...
...meant for me only to link the last three as a group. Well, I linked all five. I hope that is considered reasonable. They were all taken at the same place at the same time. Sorry if I understood, but it is nice knowing there is a way to link separate posts.

OK
I will fix it for you.

Thanks, Bob
I don't think I've ever had to condense separate posts into one, but now that I know how I won't need help. LOL- I've been sleep deprived for a couple of days so am particularly dense. Know at least that I appreciate the extra effort that you made to explain the effect of double quotes in titles, and the idea to link the individual male fly photos.
