ID requested ... - Stilpnochlora couloniana - Female
Port Charlotte , Charlotte County, Florida, USA
April 22, 2021
Size: Approximately 2”
This bug landed on my shoulder this evening while I was working out in our yard. He startled me when he landed on me, becauseI had no idea where he came from, but after visiting me for a minute, he flew off of me & landed on a leaf on one of our Bamboo plants. He then moved to our deck railing where my husband pick him up for me, so I could take his picture for Identifying. I was told by others that they thought he might be a Bush Cricket,, a Katydid, a Long Horned Grasshopper, a leaf hopper, a torrid beetle, a leaf bug, and a False Katydid .... hoping someone know exactly what he is for certain, so I can correctly identify him for others in the future.

This is an adult female Stilpnochlora couloniana - giant katydid - the largest katydid species in the US, mostly restricted to FL and Cuba.

"Bush cricket" refers to the katydid family (Tettigoniidae) in Europe, but in the US refers to a completely unrelated subfamily of crickets (Hapithinae). "Long-horned grasshopper" is an older term for the katydid family. "Leafhopper" refers to Cicadellidae - an unrelated family of insects. "Leaf bug" usually refers to Phylliidae - another unrelated family of insects that is mostly restricted to southeast Asia. "False katydid" refers to the katydid subfamily Phaneropterinae, of which your species is a member.

The common names are all rather confusing :)
