What kind of Scarab Beetle? - Spilodiscus instratus

What kind of Scarab Beetle? - Spilodiscus instratus
2 km SE of Fairy Hill marsh, Saskatchewan, Canada
April 27, 2021
Size: 1/3" or so
Found within about 20' from the other scarab beetle that I have in ID request that I've asked if it's a Aphodius fimetarius, not sure if that matters or they're related, but I've never seen either of these beetles before in Southern Saskatchewan. Native prairie used for pasture land for cows, a lot of cow pies around. EDIT: THANKS John Rosenfeld! This would be a first for Sask that I've seen, (a first for Bugguide too for SK?!) John Rosenfeld: As you've got it as "something like this", (suggested)the ID, and because if that's what it is, it's a first for Saskatchewan... then I'd like to put it in at the Histerini level... however I'll leave it in ID request until someone gives a firm ID. THANK YOU! V Belov for the further ID / Move.

move
Thanks T. Hedlund for the move. Just wondering: will those who know beetles: are they more likely to ID this when it's farther along in Taxonomy when it's in ID request, or will they go to where you've put it, in the Tribe level, and review the beetles there, or will it sit there? Some times when people put in a "likely" or a suggestion of an ID, or indicate it "might be" something, if it's moved to the level this one was, it's never looked at again, whereas if in ID Request: it's more likely someone who can ID this right down to Species level will do so and it's moved right into species (thus the reason I sometimes leave it in ID Request)

Variable
Honestly it varies depending on the person who works on the group. There are several general beetle folk floating around here, along with some specialists as well. Typically once a beetle lands at the ordinal level it gets looked at fairly quickly, but sometimes it's faster at the family level (a good example would be click beetles, always put those at the family level because Blaine Matheson is super quick when he sees things there).

In the case of histerids, I know that Bill Warner is one of the experts of the group, but I don't know what his preferred level might be. I've had a few moved by him before that I placed at different levels, but I don't know what he checks most often. I'd probably guess the family level, so if you prefer, I can move it up to that. If not Bill, Blaine or v belov or others might move it as well.

moving
Excellent information, thank you T. That's a good suggestion, moving to family level. I'll diarize this to check in a year, if it's still there, I'll put it back to where you have it. Thank you! :)
