Gelechiidae, perhaps Chionodes fondella - Chionodes fondella Ames High Prairie, Story County, Iowa, USA May 2, 2021
July 15, 2020: meandering this prairie remnant with J.D.Thompson (who showed me all the work he's put into this place clearing invasives and woodies, collecting seed on site and reseeding). I was also looking for herbivory on native plants. Thought I was onto something when I found several of these larvae on multiple flower heads of Monarda fistulosa.
Fresh flowers were collected at 100 Acre Wood in Winneshiek County. I tried to check for life in the new flowers but certainly may have missed something in which case the location would be different than listed.
May 2, 2021: (on or before), moth, but wings did not develop properly
May 4, 5, 2021: 6 more of these moths emerged, all from flower heads of Monarda fistulosa.
