Mesostenus sp.

Mesostenus sp.
Aubrey, Denton County, Texas, USA
May 1, 2021
Observed in a semi-wooded habitat by a lake

Moved
Moved from Ichneumonid Wasps.

This doesn't correspond to any species of Mesostenus listed for Texas(1) (note ovipositor length and mesoscutal markings). This is almost certainly a different genus of Cryptini.

Also, to comment on the inquiry on iNat, this cannot be Lymeon orbus due to the extensively red abdomen, and there aren't any other red-tailed Lymeon reported in Texas.

There are quite a number of similarly-colored genera that will require comparing to museum specimens or keying under the microscope. I would also caution against a subtribal placement without microscopy as coloration is frequently shared across several subtribes.

iNat fixed
Thanks, I moved the iNat obs to Cryptini.
