Size: 1 to 2.5 mm, mixed
Lots of these on a small willow tree, and they are damaging it. What is the best way to get rid of them? The ants were busy tending them, I noticed, as is seen in the next picture.

Moved from Aphids. Agreed--Cranshaw's image of the black willow aphid (Pterocomma smithiae) and Marshall's image of P. bicolor both look like this. Not sure what sources I can trust, but it appears that both species feed on both willow and poplar.
