Contarinia bulliformis Gagne 2008. (Cecidomyiidae: Diptera)
Dr. Gagne published the gall midges of hickories in 2008 (Memoirs of the American Entomological Society # 48). The photographs of the galls you show here, are very similar to those on page 121 (figs. 170-171 in Gagne 2008) for Contarinia bulliformis Gagne.
Contarinia bulliformis is known only from larvae and the galls. Gagne states that the galls are green, bubble-like swellings of leaf mid-vein or petiole and usually showing on both sides of the leaflet (page 91). From Louisiana. If you can rear adults save them in alcohol and send them to Dr. Gagne, at the NMNH in Washington.
