ribbon-like tracks on young beech

ribbon-like tracks on young beech
Bel Air, Harford County, Maryland, USA
May 11, 2021
Saw these odd ribbon patterns on the bark of American Beech sapling (1.5" trunk diameter). The tracks are approximately 2 mm wide, have a wave amplitude of 5-7 mm, and run nearly the full length of the trunk. The track in the middle of the photo has a wavelength of approx 5-7 mm, but the one to its left is much tighter with a wavelength of 3-4 mm. ID help appreciated.
