LargeStickLikeBug - Anisomorpha buprestoides - female

LargeStickLikeBug - Anisomorpha buprestoides - Female
Katy, West Harris County, Texas, USA
July 3, 2008
Size: ~3-4 inches long 1cm wide
I find these bugs in our driveway in the morning in the summer moving slowly. They can spray a liquid from somewhere toward the rear. It will curl its tail up high and -run-.

Moved
Moved from Anisomorpha.

Anisomorpha buprestoides
Near the coast (including the Houston area) in east Texas (ranging as far west as at least Corpus Cristi) it is this species. Inland it is the smaller A. ferruginea.

Anisomorpha
only two spp. in the US and I think this is the larger one (Two-striped Walkingstick), female - compare below:

Thank you
I guess I grew up with the smaller version. Thanks!
