The photos aren't great, but I think they are worth posting. I chanced upon the emergence of this Xiphydria from a dead log. The entire process took less than 30 seconds.
Here, the wasp's head is just emerging, wiggling in all directions (thanks to the flexible "neck" of this creature) in an effort to free the first antenna.
