well I have no idea what this caterpillar is, this is why I posted it here if anyone could help me it would be great. this is the only shot i have of it other then it being in its chrysalis. thanks in advanced

did some more comparing
This looks pretty typical for a black form Nymphalis (Roddia) vau-album. Apparently the more common coloration for the species.

Anglewing species
A Polygonia butterfly, or Nymphalis (Roddia) vau-album. A few questions. If you have a photo of the chyrsalis, can you post it and link it to the caterpillar? It might help identify the species. Also, did it hatch out into an adult butterfly? If so, again, do you have a photo? Last question. It appears to be sitting on an Elm leaf; is that what it was eating?
