Hodges #8761 - Erasa Chocolate Moth - Argyrostrotis erasa
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
May 24, 2021
Size: Forewing ≈18mm
Captured after being attracted by black light, and photographed next day in daylight. This is the forth BugGuide record of 8761 Argyrostrotis erasa: After consulting MPG and BOLD I am convinced that I got the ID right: the moth's wing marking, albeit indistinct, and size measurements match well those of moths on the photos by Hugo Kons displayed in BOLD. The individuals shown by BOLD are from Florida, including sites not far from Tallahassee in the northern Panhandle, and from coastal North Carolina, all collected 12 or more years ago as is a moth from Mississippi posted in BugGuide. My moth and the two very recent ones in BugGuide from North Carolina and Mississippi look like "rediscoveries" of the species.
