Phidippus female - Phidippus asotus - female

Phidippus female - Phidippus asotus - Female
CA-18 at Cactus Flat pullout, San Bernardino County, California, USA
April 9, 2021
Size: ca 9 mm
I found this female jumper under a rock in a silk retreat and collected it. I reared it in captivity for a while, but it never molted and it turned out to be an adult female - took chilled live photos and euthanized it. Possibly P. asotus, but that is supposed to be a fall-maturing species per GB's monograph and the epigynum doesn't look like a perfect match to his illustration? The epigynum was unfortunately broken during dissection.

Thanks Don!

P. asotus
Yes, this is P. asotus. The females sometimes have no mid-ocular carapace markings. As with P. mystaceus and arizonensis, the adults will mature and mate in the fall. Then the females will overwinter and produce eggsacs in the spring.
