Fire-Colored Beetle - Pedilus lewisii - male

Fire-Colored Beetle - Pedilus lewisii - Male
near Alpine, Apache County, Arizona, USA
June 23, 2008
Size: 7mm

Thanks Dan!
Moved from Pedilus.

Pedilus lewisii (Horn)
This is an adult male of Pedilus lewisii (Horn). As is true of many N.A. species of Pedilus, color of the head, prothorax, and legs is quite variable. The elytral apices (color, impression shape, etc.) is typically diagnostic for N.A males (although the color of the elytral apices in P. lewisii is also variable).
- Dan Young, University of Wisconsin

Thanks Stephen
Moved from Beetles.

I'd say Pyrochroid
... probably Pedilus. I think only the males have the depressed elytral apices.
