Do you think there may have been a stem in this vial? No Melanagromyzas are known to be leafminers...

 
I can't rule out the possibil
I can't rule out the possibility, but I have no idea why I would have included a stem, as the mine was in the leaf... I cannot remember what I collected besides the leaf. Not sure if I'd put other leaves/stems in there in case it exited and made new mines? I cannot remember...

 
I should add
that some Melanagromyza spp. feed in seedheads of Asteraceae instead of in stems. I guess all we know for sure is the host; I haven't looked into it thoroughly, but I don't think any Melanagromyzas are known from Packera. It would be great if a male could be reared at some point, and the feeding site clarified, but Melanagromyzas are a whole other can of worms!

 
I sent more similar mines fro
I sent more similar mines from Packera from this past May (D3505, collected 16 May), but I think they may all have been empty?? I am not sure that the mines are related to this adult, but either way, I was certainly surprised to find it in the vial. I'll try to get there earlier next spring...
