firefly - ventral - Photuris

firefly - ventral - Photuris
Ailsa Craig, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada
June 6, 2021
Size: 13 mm
On the ground blinking beside Ausable River. Continued to blink quickly for about a minute after being captured in jar.
I had no luck catching several other flying beetles that were blinking more slowly (about 3 second duration) with several seconds between blinks.
Only two of the last three abdominal sternites are all-white. Is this a female?
My photo from the same locality 17 years ago has the last three terminal sternites all-white.
