Unidentified Spider, Devil's Den State Park - Gladicosa pulchra

Unidentified Spider, Devil's Den State Park - Gladicosa pulchra
Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA
September 23, 2007
Size: Medium-ish
Devil's Den State Park. Taken right next to our tents.. Saw 2 of them about the same size though coloring on the second that I didn't get a photograph of was different. It had some rusty reddish hues to its abdomen.. and the legs where the white on this picture is.

Looks to be a wolf spider
in the Lycosidae, but you're right. They are tough to ID to species. We can't even do genus!

Going through my photo collections..
I've got several trips worth of photos (probably a couple thousand photos altogether) and about a third of them are insects of some kind though we were looking for reptiles.. Since I've had little luck ID'ing anything but the Tarantula's and butterflies we found I figured I'd give people here a crack at identifying. And I'm greatly appreciative of each ID because I keep a running tally of animals/insects/etc that I photograph and cross them off a lifetime list. I probably will never complete the list on the insect columns since there's far too many but its fun to try *L*
