Swallow Bugs (Oeciacus vicarius) in situ in neck of Cliff-Swallow nest - Oeciacus vicarius
Palo Alto, Santa Clara County, California, USA
June 9, 2021
The Cliff-Swallow nest was in a purpose-built box under the eaves of the interpretative center in the Palo Alto Baylands. We first noticed the bugs in a photo I took of a Pacific Gopher Snake that had taken residence in the swallow nest. This photo was taken from about 10 feet away from the nest, the closest feasible approach.

Note the eggs (or at least egg cases) in addition to the adult bugs.
