Several stiletto flies has found refuge on and among the leaves of our magnolia tree and the Rudbeckia plants growing beside it in our front yard this evening. The sky had been grey and we were expecting rain to come through and several insects, not just the stiletto flies, looked to be finding places to wait out the approaching storm.

I made sure to capture photos of both sexes. Here's an example of the females I saw:
