based on my microscopic examination of this specimen. A widespread species. Thanks Tom.

It does look like C. sericeus, but maybe it's a similar looking species from the southwest.

pretty mainstream-looking :-] (i know i'm not supposed to mess with carabids -- mille pardons)

 
Please continue your insightful comments on posted carabids.
This one does look superficially like Chlaenius sericeus of which there are two subspecies in AZ. However, since there are several other similar species in AZ I'll wait until this specimen reaches my hand. An unfair advantage I know!
