Big black scarab-type beetle - Prionus laticollis

Big black scarab-type beetle - Prionus laticollis
Ocean Pines, Worcester County, Maryland, USA
June 16, 2021
Size: 1.5 in.
Found this morning logy and scrabbling on its back on the front steps. He held onto a stick that I offered him and posed unresponsively to a series of photos before I released it in the front yard bushes. One of the largest beetles I've seen in this region.

looks like a broad necked root borer (Prionus laticollis), a member of the longhorn beetle family

Prionus laticollis
The other photos look like a good match, especially the distinctive antennae and shiny black legs. Male? Or female with the ovipositor broken off? (I see females are notably larger than males.)
