Black and Red flying insect, possible wasp? - Eichlinia cucurbitae

Black and Red flying insect, possible wasp? - Eichlinia cucurbitae
New Castle County, Delaware, USA
June 20, 2021
Size: approx 1 inch
Possible wasp? Seen during the day, especially around noon. Hangs out around my vegetable garden. Seems to prefer the squash plants. Repeatedly lands on the ground at the stems of the squash plants, but not sure what it's doing. Thanks for any help!

Squash vine borer
This is a squash vine borer, a type of moth. It is almost certainly a female laying eggs at the base of the squash plants. The larvae bore in the stalks and can be destructive.
