Western Pondhawk - Erythemis collocata - Male
Antelope Island Causeway near Salt Lake City, Utah County, Utah, USA
June 26, 2008
I photographed this Western Pondhawk female on the Antelope Island Causeway as it was resting on a bush alongside a salt marsh.

actually, on close examination
this is a young male (they start out green like the females). The appendages at the tip of the abdomen are longer and usually dark in the males (shorter, blunter and pale in the females).
