which Beefly ? - Ligyra gazophylax
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA

Size: 3/4"
I was so impressed by the size and coloring of this Beefly . I found it in my own yard ! I entered a handsome Beefly from the mountains last week that looks similar , but this one was larger and the coloring was different . Thankyou for any comments , sincerely Beth That is one good thing about the terrible summer heat , the bugs come out .

ID
This is the handsome Ligyra gazophylax, a very large bee fly which ranges over much of the Arid West. I believe it is a hyperparasite of large Scoliid wasps which themselves parasitize Scarab beetles in the soil. Always nice to see one. Thanks for the post.
