Large Northern Pompilid - Poecilopompilus algidus - Female
Rideout Road Trailhead, Hollis, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
June 30, 2021
Size: 2.5 cm
While hiking, I saw a startlingly large pompilid wasp circling and investigating a patch of lowbush blueberries, Vaccinium angustifolium, where I found a rather large orb weaver had ended up stuck, paralyzed.

Looks like...
The size estimate seems to be a little bit exaggerated. I filmed a few in this genus at about 13mm. Maybe yours are bigger.
Anoplius:

more like Poecilopompilus algidus
Oh, that Anoplius photo is one of mine from last year, but that was a much smaller insect that what I encountered today.

After poking around, it seems probable that what I encountered was a Poecilopompilus algidus. Note the reddish hue around the eyes and the anterior of the pronotum where there's a red spot.

OK
Yes, they are bigger and I see the red color now.
