Moved from Hahncappsia neobliteralis.

Nice image, but not likely Hahncappsia neobliteralis. According to Monroe (1) that species is known from Ipomoea and on segment A9 the pigmentation of common pinaculum of setae D2 is interrupted middorsally and there is no black pigment on D1 + SD1 and L.

Moved from Pyraustinae.

Without dissection or DNA barcode, I would consider the ID tentative. That said both your larva and adult seem to match the descriptions in Munroe (1976) (1) and Capps (1967)(2). Your larva is also a good match for DNA barcoded BOLD Sample ID MLL-00733. We do not have descriptions of all larvae in the genus and adults require dissection for positive ID.

The other cat was found on Morning Glory, so that should help people separate the two.

Do you find this cat
on Verbesina alternifolia?

I was told the plant is Verbesina helianthoides, but plant identification is not my strong suit. I have pictures somewhere, but finding them will be another story.

If you can put the info in fields two and three
of the location fields, that would be great. And the dates are missing from all the images.
But even greater is that someone finally raised one of these cats to maturity. How certain are you of the adult ID? Because we have about twenty images of the caterpillar that we have been waiting to move to a species page!
We have another series identified as mancalis, but it looks to be a different cat :(

Verbesina alternifolia known host...?`
to H. neobliteralis?
I have an identical cat (not submitted to bugguide, but here:

Plant is definitely V. alternifolia.
I'd love to know if this is a confirmed host plant for this species, please?

I'll try to work on getting everything filled in tomorrow. David Wagner identified the moth via photos and a specimen that I sent to Sam Jaffe.

Sorry, it was automatically filled in when I opened the form. I think I've removed them all individually but didn't see how to do a group edit so hopefully I didn't miss any.
