Fly, I believe - Chalcosyrphus chalybeus - male

Fly, I believe - Chalcosyrphus chalybeus - Male
Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota, USA
July 4, 2008
This one is a mystery to me. I've lightened it up a little, due to the black color, but it at first reminded me of a type of wasp, but then, after looking closer, the fattened and hairy femurs on the rear legs, really confused me. Would anyone know what this might be? It's about 1/2 to 5/8 inch in length, and the wings reflect blue, depending upon the angle. It's movements were very wasp-like, not fly-like. Is it in the Mydas Fly group? Thanks.

fine shot!
i'm pretty clueless about Diptera, but pls check Chalcosyrphus chalybeus
