Found struggling on the surface of an upper subalpine lake (~2100m). I have some other photos from the sides and front.

According to a comment on
this iNat observation
,
X. spectrum
is no longer considered a North American species. I suspect this belongs on the "
X. caudatus
or
X. Melancholicus
" page, but I'll leave it at genus until someone with actual expertise takes a look at these. :)

Moved to genus just to be safe. With luck, an actual expert will weigh in. :)
I will note, however, that
X. pallicoxae
appears to be a European species. Yours is the only North American data point on iNat.

I also uploaded this guy to iNat and recieved a comment that due to the light-coloured coxae this is actually X. pallicoxae. Just added a photo that better shows this feature.
