Size: 1 mm
Many of these were on a Giant Puffball (
Calvatia gigantea
). Looks like another
Atomaria
to me.

This looks exactly like
Atomaria apicalis
Erichson, 1846. The name
Atomaria ovalis
Casey, 1900 is now a junior synonym of
A. apicalis
(Majka et al. 2010)
.

The diversity is huge alright, but they all look the same to me, so I get the feeling that I'm shooting the same species over and over!

you shoud look perhaps in diff. places...
...to appreciate how diverse they really are. some are skinny, some are chunky, and pronotal outlines vary a lot, e.g.
