which Beefly ? - Heterostylum

which Beefly ? - Heterostylum
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
July 10, 2008
Size: 1 @1/2 cm
I found this Beefly in my front yard on Shasta daisies and in the backyard on Zinnias and Lantana . It is always fun to see this type of Beefly as it buzzes loud and proud whizzing here and there . I noticed that this one is balding and has , hopefully , pollen hanging off her rear section . Is this an old Beefly ?, or maybe a bird tried to catch her ? I entered one like her last year but was unable to get a photo of still wings needed for i.d. Thanks for any comments , sincerely Beth
