American Carrion Beetle larva - Necrophila americana

American Carrion Beetle larva - Necrophila americana
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
June 11, 2005
Thanks to images already in the guide, this third type of larva that showed up at my carrion bait station was a snap to identify. All black, it stood out from the other silphid larvae, which have some lighter flesh-tone markings on them. The fact that at least one adult Necrophila americana was photographed at the carrion site was also a help.
