I fell for it - I thought it was a wasp. Found on the grounds of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. The only vagely similar thing seems to be Ripiphorus

i admit, at first glance the 3rd pic did look like a chalcid wasp to me, too... and i've collected these before...
