How exciting! You have photographed Neolema ovalis, which was described by White in 1993. I hope I can find some when I'm down that way the end of this month. It is a species I have yet to add to my collection. Host plant is a day flower, Commelina sp.

It got away
It landed very shortly on a little tree at the prairie dog exhibit at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum - prob. not the host plant. But it disappeared before I could catch it. Good luck, I'll keep an eye out for more

Host plant should be Commelin
Host plant should be Commelina or possibly Tradescantia. Good luck!

Margarethe, I am doing a talk
Margarethe, I am doing a talk this year at IECC on the chrysomelid beetles of the Sonoran Desert. It's an introduction to the diversity of the fauna there and the various behaviors that the beetles exhibit and their potential to be used in ecological education and was wondering if you would mind if I used this picture in my talk. I would of course credit you in the photograph credits. Your photographs are always so wonderful.

yes, sure
this beasty took off right after the shot, so not a great pic

or Neolema - Criocerinae is safe
looks like something new for the guide. Hope John Watts can identify it.
