Mushroom geotrupid - Geotrupes balyi Windham, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA July 11, 2008 Size: about 15 mm
I found this fellow in/on a mushy, slimy, rotting mushroom near a small pond or seasonal pool in mixed woods. Since the sutural stria extend to the base (anterior edge) of the elytra and he has some definite green and purple hues, this has to be Geotrupes balyi, a new species for me. Can it be sexed from these images?
