Mystery underwing moth - Catocala

Mystery underwing moth - Catocala
Caroga Lake, Fulton County, New York, USA
July 24, 2021
Size: between 2 and 3 inches
Well, this was a surprise. As I was heading outside to look at our moth sheet, this mystery moth planted itself onto the window. This was the best image I could muster. The surrounding habitat was a mix of conifer and deciduous trees similar to the rest of the southern Adirondack region. If identifiable to species, I would love to know what other resources there might be for identifying these moths from below.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Unfortunately, about half of the species look pretty much the same from the undersides. So, a species ID is unlikely, sorry.
An expert might be able to eliminate some of the candidates in your area.

All good! I'll leave it as Ca
