These were incredibly common in a mostly tanoak forest. But hard to get close enough to photograph with my phone. Wary and active. Dozens of attempts over a few days before I got this photo. Missing wing section helpfully reveals a darker upper surface. I read that golden hairstreak larvae feed on oaks, so if that is what this is it explains their very large numbers in this forest.
