Angus' Datana - Datana angusii

Angus' Datana - Datana angusii
Nelson County, Virginia, USA
June 19, 2008
Beautiful golden/brown color. Possibly Datana angusii?

Datana sp.?
I believe this is a "prominent moth" in the genus Datana. Some species roll their wings around their bodies at rest, making them appear almost like a broken twig.

I'd agree -
But if there was more light on the wing, I'd rule out more species. For now, it could be D. angusii, but I'm not sure. There are other Datanas that are more common.

Re: I'd agree -
Part of what convinced me is the color of the head. The angusii is the only one I can find with a dark head -- the other Datana seem to have more reddish heads.

But like Datana, I may be going out on a limb... ;-)

Re: Datana sp.?
I wondered if it could be a prominent... anyway your comment led me to the conclusion that it's probably Angus' Datana Moth -- Datana angusii. Thank you!
