Robber Fly - Promachus vertebratus - female

Robber Fly - Promachus vertebratus - Female
Scuppernong Prairie, Kettle Moraine State Forest, nr Palmyra, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, USA
August 16, 2002
Still clueless..

Moved
Moved from Giant Robber Flies.

Oviposting robber
Hard to see the structure of the ovipositing tip but the face and eye structure are wrong for Efferia. Looks more like a Promachus or Proctacanthus. Wisconsin is in the border zone for some of the western species in these groups. Does not appear to be our common eastern species.

Female ovipositing.
I still have a hard time telling the genera apart myself, but this is definitely a female ovipositing. Probably genus Efferia.
