Dytiscidae - Coptotomus longulus
Colfax, Placer County, California, USA
July 27, 2021
Size: 7.5 mm
Captured in a 20 Watt UV bucket trap left for 3 nights.
Location 9 mi. south of Colfax, on Pine Lake Dr., 666 m elevation (2,185 ft), GPS = 39.0649, -120.9439. Habitat is the top of a conifer populated ridge.

I don't see any recorded for CA so I posted this to see if I was right.

I keyed this to Coptotomus in Amer. Beetles (1), the following characters were observed and visible in the pictures.

-- Apical maxillary & labial palpi asymmetrically bifid.
-- Prosternum anterior margin lateral side view is almost vertical.
-- Prosternal process flat without longitudinal groove.
-- Pronotum without lateral bead.
-- Metacoxal lines not strongly convergent anterior to metacoxal lobes.
-- Elytron without longitudinal striae.
-- Eye with notched anterior margin.
-- Scutellum visible.
