Size: One inch,
This was on the cover of my boat this morning. The large eyes makes me think it is a fly, but the rest of it, including large size, reminds me of a moth. It let me take a few pictures before flying off. Any ideas?

This is a male horsefly, less commonly seen than females.

Thanks. I guess I should have known that, but it has been over a half century since I left the farm, where we had horses and plenty of horseflies.
