Yeah, this is Nerthra. See Slater & Baranowski's How to Know True Bugs for comparison between the two genera. Furthermore, 3 of the 5 Nearctic species (including N. martini) are strictly southwestern. This is possibly N. stygica but I'm not sure which of the other 3 species is southeastern.

i suspect it's Nerthra --

a Toad Bug. Anyway -- A VERY NICE FIND! and nicely shot, too. They patrol shorelines

I think he is really cool too!

I see that there are no images in the guide for Nertha, so I'm hesitant to move it. I'm not an expert.

Thank you for the quick ID. I'm sure it is in the family that Nertha is in, so I'll let him go at a body of water.
