Yellow Mantis - Mantis religiosa - female

Yellow Mantis - Mantis religiosa - Female
Reno, NV, Washoe County, Nevada, USA
July 11, 2008
Size: 3" approx
This is a Mantis that some colleagues and I found on July 11th, 2008. My first thought was that the coloring was due to a recent molting. I'm far and wide from being any kind of entomologist, but from what little I know the natural color of the insect should return within the same day of the molting. Currently I've had this mantis in captivity for 5 days, as of 07-15-08. The color has not changed in the slightest. And it doesn't seem to care about the captivity so long as its belly is full :)
