You could be right.
Mosquitoes and Midges are related. I guess I'll have to get another one and look more closely at the wings. I can't see whether they're scaly or not in any of my photos well enough to determine which. They look scaly to me, obviuosly, but my eyes are the pits. (One of the reasons I love photographing them... I can see them better, but still not good enough!) A new project! Thanks. I guess I'm just assuming mosquito because there are so darn many around here!

Wings
Though it is not mentioned in keys, I have observed that Chironomidae tend to have their wings spread, not flat over the abdomen like this guy. Chaoboridae do get this large, barely, and hold their wings flat.

Hmmm
I just posted on your egg picture that I thought they looked a bit more like midge eggs, then I got to this picture! I'm pretty sure you've got a midge here, and midge eggs there.
