Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
All but 1 American species were removed from this genus in the 70s and placed in Caecidotea. Since then, a second species of Asellus has been introduced from Asia in CA and a few species that were placed in Caecidotea have been put in their own genera

Eurasia, in North America in NW AK (native) and C CA (introduced)
