Remarks
This complex contains of 5 species in the North Atlantic that can only be told apart by details on the male walking legs. All species have roughly the same range, with the only exceptions being a species being limited to North America and a species limited to Europe.
Key to members of the Jaera albifrons complex in North America
1a. Mature ♂️ pereopods 1-4 heavily modified, pereopods 6-7 somewhat normal → Jaera praehirsuta
1b. Mature ♂️ pereopods 1-4 simple, pereopods 6-7 modified → 2

2a. Mature ♂️ pereopods 6-7 with large lobes on the distal interior margin of the second to last segment → Jaera albifrons sensu stricto
2b. Mature ♂️ pereopods 6-7 without large lobes on the distal interior margin of the second to last segment → 3

3a. Mature ♂️ pereopods 6+7 with dense curled bristles on the inside margins of the 2nd 3rd and 4th to last segments → Jaera posthirsuta
3b. Mature ♂️ 6+7 with dense curled bristles only on the inside margin of the 4th to last segment → Jaera ischiosetosa
